About Us and Our Financial Planning Process

Here’s more information about working with us.

Let’s Talk About Money

It’s not polite to talk about money. They don’t teach it in high school, college, or even graduate school. It’s common to “make it” in your career and still not understand much about your personal finances.

So if you feel overwhelmed or are over preparing for the worst to happen financially, let’s dive into that. We’re here to be your trusted guide. We’ll review your investments, and even talk about how your career choices can influence your finances and retirement.

Then let’s talk about your dreams

As women, we tend to be risk averse, and don’t dream big enough for ourselves. We want to give you permission to live your greatest life and passions.  Let’s focus on what could be, rather than what is.

We’ll start here:

“If starting tomorrow, all your financial needs were taken care of, what would you do? How would you spend your time?”

If we work together, we’ll spend a lot of time imagining what life would be like if all the financial pieces were already in place so that you can discover what’s really important for you.

Why our process is different

We take the time to talk and really get to know what makes you tick. We will encourage you to think bigger and will hold you accountable over the long term. We are here to help you maximize your chance of success.

Meet Cady North, CFP®, Founder and CEO of North Financial Advisors

Business is in my blood.

My parents were small business owners, and I learned to balance a business checkbook by the age of 13. I spent more than a decade advising high-level executives of Fortune 500 companies while working for industry giants such as Bloomberg and Financial Executives International. I then took the leap to start my own business helping women and entrepreneurs plan for their futures. With offices in both Washington D.C. and San Diego, I am available to meet with you if you live in either region. I also work via virtual screen sharing and video conference so we can work together no matter where you live. I’ve written two books that focus on how to make your life’s biggest dreams work for you financially.

My Goal is to Give Back

One of the reasons I love working for myself is I can plan my own schedule and give back time to causes I appreciate. Financial literacy is one of those causes for me and I like to get involved by providing financial planning workshops to local organizations and volunteering with Savvy Ladies. This is just one example of how you can design your business to reflect your personal goals!

Frequently Asked Questions

Discover the answers to some of the most common questions about financial planning and investment management, and how our services can help you achieve your financial goals.

What is fiduciary financial planning?

It means that you pay for our advice; we do not earn commissions from product sales. We’re legally obligated to act in your best interest. We prioritize your financial well-being above all else.

How do you charge for your services?

We operate on a fee-only basis, meaning we charge a transparent fee for our services, ensuring that our advice is unbiased and solely focused on your needs.

What kinds of clients do you work with?

We help people who may not yet have large portfolios but are serious about their financial goals. Whether you’re saving for a sabbatical, planning career changes, or looking toward retirement, we tailor our investment services to both short- and long-term needs.

What should I expect during my first consultation?

During your initial consultation, we will discuss your financial goals, assess your current financial situation, and outline a personalized plan to help you achieve your objectives.

Why choose North Financial Advisors?

We take a personalized approach for each client. We spend time getting to know your dreams and values, not just your numbers. We offer transparency, ongoing accountability, and a process that adapts as your life evolves. We work with clients virtually from around the U.S. We have deep experience and education, and we’re celebrating 10 years in business as of 2025.

How are your fees structured for investment management?

The fee is 1% of assets under management (AUM) annually. It’s billed quarterly, based on the average balance of the accounts we manage for you. There is a minimum quarterly fee of $2,000.

How often should I review my financial plan?

We recommend reviewing your financial plan at least annually or whenever there are significant changes in your life circumstances to ensure it remains aligned with your goals. We typically meet with clients between 1-3 times a year.

What does your investment process look like?

Working with us, you’ll review and approve an investment strategy. We implement it, monitor performance, rebalance as needed, and consider your evolving personal goals and life changes. Our aim is to reduce your financial anxiety and free up mental energy so you can focus on what matters to you.

How do you balance risk, investing, and cash reserves?

We believe in finding a mix that works for you. That means keeping enough cash or liquid reserves to feel secure, while investing wisely for growth. Our process helps you build resilience so you can weather market ups and downs without losing sight of your goals.

What kinds of goals or life changes can your investment management services support?

Many! For example: changing career paths; taking a sabbatical; starting a business; retiring early; or just having more financial freedom and flexibility in your choices.  We start with answering simple questions like “How much cash should I have and in what types of accounts?” And move to more complex matters, such as helping you with investments to achieve your goals, tax planning, insurance analysis, and more.
